Step inside Green Bay Botanical Garden's woodland fantasy-- a children's garden for young and old alike. A place uniquely 'Green Bay' yet teetering on the branch of a fantastical storyland. Biophilic art emerges from a garden where imagination and science reign.  From wetland to treetop, the garden balances education and play and leaves you inspired to learn, cultivate, and see the living world in a new light.

The Children's Garden is 2.5 acres of plant-centric fun! The space reinforces the organization's mission to grow a new generation of gardeners. Features include an adventure play area, treehouses, splash pad, stormwater stream, amphitheater, "Lodge" picnic area, and cave play, each with an interpretive story to complement the Garden's educational programming.

Landscape architectural services spanned from concept to construction and included design-lead, project management, artist selection and coordination, custom furnishings, hardscape grading and layout, playground design, and construction administration.

This project was completed under the tenure of SmithGroup and constructed by Boldt.  Art installations by RE:site, Matthew Mazzotta, and Brian Wignall.  Photography by Shane Bernau.

Design Concept

At the intersection of cultivated and the wild, the Children's Garden creates a 'Woodland Fantasy' for visitors to learn the value of plants but also immerse themselves in nature-based exploration and play.

The Garden's success was driven by the incredible vision of GBBG's leadership team and volunteers as well as the dedication of SmithGroup's A/E team in conjunction with Boldt Construction.
