In juxtaposition of the prosaic homes scattered around Lake Mendota, the Ledge Lakehouse nestles quietly into the landscape, syncing an uncommon land ethic with local materials and moments of discovery. This shore of Lake Mendota is known for its prehistoric settlement. Effigy mounds scatter the neighboring landscape and the nearby discovery of sunken dugout canoes layer the site with history and intrigue. Together with the architecture, the landscape prioritizes stewardship to neighbors, native ecology, and the storied past. Stay tuned for more as this project develops...

When an outcropping emerges from the wooded landscape, what do you do? You climb it, of course, to survey the vista. Like a geological perch, the Ledge Lakehouse emerges from the slope, interrupting the landscape yet part of it. It draws you to the edge of nature to pause and contemplate the view shared by generations before.
